The City of Brownsville encompasses 84 square miles and in 2019 had an estimated population of 182,781. It is the largest city in South Texas Rio Grande Valley (RGV).

The county seat for Cameron County, Brownsville, is located at the intersection of the Rio Grande and Gulf of Mexico.
