Ramiro Aleman
Director of Business Recruitment, Retention & Expansion

Ramiro Aleman is the Director of Business Recruitment, Retention and Expansion for the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, the economic development division of the City of Brownsville. In his role at the GBIC, he’s charged with recruiting business to the city of nearly 200,000 and conducting relations with local industry through the Business Retention & Expansion program.

He has led initiatives in every aspect of economic development to include business recruitment, business retention & expansion, international marketing and public relations.  In his short time at the GBIC, he’s worked on an array of projects which of most recently includes the Greyhound Bus Lines refurbishing and repair facility, Keppel Amfels container ship building operation and the first new construction project at the North Brownsville Industrial Park.

Prior to the GBIC, he was at the Harlingen Economic Development Council where he was the Manager of Industrial Operations. He worked with McCallum Sweeney Consulting, a world renowned economic and business development firm, to certify a 500-acre industrial park as “Shovel Ready.”

Mr. Aleman has found a niche in the aerospace sector when he worked with AEP Texas and Valley International Airport to manage the Site Certification process for the Harlingen Aerotropolis, designed to attract companies in the aerospace sector. The Aerotropolis is the only the second certified site in the entire United States and first in Texas through the AEP Site Certification program.  He also worked on and supported workforce and incentive efforts for United Launch Alliance and the SpaceX South Texas Launch Site being built at Boca Chica Beach in Brownsville.

Mr. Aleman earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management with a concentration in International Business from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He also has an Associate Degree in Computer Science Technology from Texas State Technical College in Harlingen.

He is a member of the International Economic Development Council and the Texas Economic Development Council. He is the Treasurer on the Executive Board for Rio South Texas Economic Council. Mr. Aleman has completed coursework for his CEcD Certification through the IEDC. He anticipates taking the exam within a year.
